Arrangements For The Admission Of Pupils With Disabilities

The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 defines a disabled person as one who has a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on a persons ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities.  Most children with Special Needs will not be disabled within the meaning of the Act. The admission of pupils with disabilities is considered in the first instance in the same way as non-disabled pupils.  Further considerations are made in the light of need and accessibility.  It is the Governors Policy to accommodate pupils with disabilities should parents wish and individual needs are planned for  to prevent any pupils being treated less favourably than other pupils.  In practice we ensure that classroom and extra curricular activities encourage the participation of all pupils, including those categorised as having Special Educational Needs.  Staff organise human and physical resources within the school to increase access to learning and participation by all pupils.

Existing facilities provided to assist access to the school by pupils with disabilities:

  • Wheelchair access onto school grounds at the main entrance on Shenley Road and the rear entrance on Arkley Road
  • Wheelchair access into the school at all entrances, and all rooms.
  • Carpeted classrooms to aid hearing impaired pupils’ learning.
  • Exterior lighting to improve evening access.
  • Routes to the main entrance are clearly signed and free from obstructions.
  • 2 disabled parking spaces in the staff car park (Please call the office if you need to use this to drop off and pick up your child)

On allocation day

16 April 2020 – find out which school you've been allocated.

Hertfordshire County Council will email you (if you confirmed your email address).

Or login to the admissions system to check in the evening.

When you get your offer

30 April is the deadline to accept or decline your offer.

If you don't accept or decline, your place maybe offered to someone else. You will then be offered a place at your nearest school that still has places.

We advise you to accept your place so your child definitely has a school in September. This doesn't affect your chances of getting a school you prefer later, either on the continuing interest list for a particular school, or through a school admission appeal.

Please note :  Admission into our Nursery class does not guarantee a place in our Reception class.  There is a separate application procedure for admission into Reception which is as above.

Children are admitted into our Nursery each year, in September.  However 'in year' applications will be accepted if places are available.  For Nursery class admissions, parents must apply directly to the school as per  the following information:-

If your child was born between 1st September 2016 and 31st August 2017 you are able to apply for a Nursery place for September 2020 by completing an application form which is available here:
