Science at Holtsmere End Infant and Nursery School
At Holtsmere End Infant and Nursery School, we aim to inspire curiosity and a love of discovery through an engaging and hands-on Science curriculum. Using the Developing Experts scheme, we provide a carefully sequenced programme that builds children’s knowledge and understanding of the world around them.
Through practical investigations and enquiry-based learning, pupils develop key scientific skills such as observing, questioning, predicting, and exploring. Lessons encourage children to think like scientists, using simple experiments and real-life experiences to deepen their understanding of scientific concepts.
Our inclusive approach ensures that all children are supported to develop confidence, curiosity, and a sense of wonder about the natural world. By the end of Key Stage 1, pupils leave Holtsmere End with a strong foundation in scientific knowledge and skills, ready to continue exploring and understanding the world around them.
Science Day 2026
To celebrate National Science week we received a visit from Mr Roche, an ecologist, who explained about his very important job. We then took part in some exciting science challenges such as what are the best materials to build a nest to withstand windy conditions and the best materials for an absorbent handkerchief. Nursery met some land snails and Reception considered whether crayons could melt. We had a great day.
