Geography at Holtsmere End Infant and Nursery School

At Holtsmere End Infant and Nursery School, we aim to inspire curiosity and a sense of wonder about the world and its people through an engaging and inclusive Geography curriculum. Children develop an understanding of their local area, the United Kingdom, and the wider world, exploring both physical and human geography while recognising similarities and differences between places.

Through practical, enquiry-based learning, pupils build key geographical skills such as map reading, fieldwork, and interpreting data. They investigate real-world issues, including environmental challenges and sustainability, helping them to understand their role as responsible global citizens. Geography is enriched through cross-curricular links and the use of digital tools, enabling children to explore and research the world in meaningful ways.

As pupils progress, they develop respect for different cultures, an awareness of global issues, and the confidence to ask questions and think critically. By the end of Key Stage 1, children leave Holtsmere End with a secure foundation in geography, a growing understanding of the world around them, and a lasting curiosity to explore it further.
