At Holtsmere End Infant and Nursery School, we believe Design and Technology plays a vital role in preparing children for the future by fostering creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Our curriculum inspires pupils to think innovatively, identify real-world needs, and develop purposeful solutions through the processes of designing, making, and evaluating.
Children are given opportunities to explore and communicate their ideas, select appropriate tools and materials, and create high-quality products across a range of projects, including textiles, construction, food, and simple technologies. Through both independent and collaborative learning, pupils develop confidence, resilience, and the ability to reflect on and improve their work, while considering the social, cultural, and environmental impact of design.
Design and Technology is closely linked with other areas of learning, including Science, Maths, and Art, helping children to see meaningful connections across the curriculum. By the time they leave Holtsmere End, pupils are confident, creative, and resourceful designers who take pride in their work and are equipped with the skills and understanding to shape and contribute to the world around them.
