Sports Premium
What is it?
The PE and Sport Premium is additional funding from the government to help primary schools improve the quality of physical education (PE), sport, and physical activity.
It was introduced as part of the lasting legacy of the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games, with the aim of encouraging all children to enjoy sport and develop healthy, active lifestyles from an early age.
At Holtsmere End Infant and Nursery School, we receive funding based on the number of pupils in Years 1 and 2.
What is the purpose of the funding?
The Department for Education states that this funding must be used to make sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport. The goal is to benefit all pupils and encourage long-term participation in physical activity and wellbeing.
Schools are encouraged to use the funding to:
-
Develop or add to their PE and sport provision
-
Build capacity and capability to ensure improvements are sustainable
-
Give all children the opportunity to experience a range of sports and physical activities

How is the funding monitored?
Ofsted inspectors look at how schools use their Sports Premium to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport. They consider how well the funding supports pupils to lead healthy lifestyles and reach their full potential in physical activity.
