Nursery Rhymes

Nursery rhymes are important for young children because they help develop an ear for language. Both rhyme and rhythm help children hear the sounds and syllables in words, which helps children learn to read! The teachers have chosen some nursery rhymes for you to share with your child. There are links to the rhymes on You tube if you are unfamiliar with them. Enjoy!

Summer Term 2, Week 7 - W/c 14.07.25

Our story of the week was 'Commotion in the Ocean.' We learnt about different water animals and made our own fact books. We have also moved in different ways like the animals so practiced galloping for a seahorse, or wiggling our arms for an octopus, we did a star jump for a starfish, but when we heard the word shark we tucked ourselves up. We practiced some different rolls, we lay on our backs, tucked our legs in and rocked back and forth, and pretended to be a turtle, and we lay straight on the floor and rolled ourselves around pretending to be a seal.

We have looked at time in maths this week and talked about the activities we do in the morning, afternoon, evening and night time. We sequenced different picture cards and then used the words 'first, next and last' to describe a sequence.

Outside, we have enjoyed playing in the ice-cream shop and making our own ice-creams from foam.

Summer Term 2, Week 6 - W/c 07.07.25

This week we have read 'Clean up!' and discussed why it is important for minibeasts and animals to put our rubbish in the bin. We then went on a litter pick hunt in the playground and collected lots of rubbish.

When we came in on Monday morning, we had another letter from Captain, thanking us for finding the pirates’ treasure. They left us hats to make and told us to have a pirate party. We danced to some pirate songs and played pin the eye patch on the pirate.

We have discussed seasonal change this week and took part in lots of activities to think about the changes we see in Summer. We started off by looking at the change in clothes we would need to feel cool in this hot weather. We went on a minibeast hunt and realised we saw different minibeasts than what we would see in the colder seasons. We saw butterflies, ladybirds and bees and have not seen these before throughout the course of the year. We talked about the activities we would do in the Summer and got a paddling pool out and paddled in it. We also had ice pops to cool us down.
